Industrial Portable Cabin Site Checklist

What plant, mining, steel, power and contractor teams should confirm before ordering site offices, security cabins and utility rooms.

Separate rooms by function

An industrial project may need a supervisor office, engineering workspace, security cabin, control or electrical room, tool store, toilet and worker-support facility. Do not assume one standard cabin specification fits every room. Equipment, occupancy, access control, noise, cleanliness and working hours can be different.

Create a room schedule with each cabin’s purpose, dimensions, occupancy, furniture or equipment, services and any special access requirements. This helps prevent missing electrical points, ventilation, partitions or maintenance clearances.

Confirm frame, envelope and operating conditions

Request written details for the structural frame, base, roof support, wall and roof sheets or panels, insulation, floor construction, surface finish, door hardware and window arrangement. Consider the site’s heat, rain, dust, moisture, chemical exposure and expected service life when deciding the specification.

If the cabin is intended for a control function or contains sensitive equipment, define temperature, ventilation, cable entry, earthing, electrical load and access needs with the responsible project engineer. Do not assume a general-purpose cabin meets specialist electrical, fire, acoustic or process requirements unless these are explicitly designed and documented.

Plan delivery into an operating site

Check the approach road, vehicle height and width limits, gate clearance, turning radius, delivery windows, site induction requirements and unloading method. Confirm whether a crane, forklift or other lifting arrangement is needed and who will provide it.

Select a prepared, level placement area with the required clearances. Decide the orientation of doors and windows, the route for cables and pipes, and how staff will reach the cabin without crossing vehicle or equipment movement paths.

Document inspection and handover

Agree what will be inspected before dispatch and after delivery: dimensions, material conformity, finish, door and window operation, electrical provisions, plumbing where applicable, accessories and visible damage. Specify which documents are required with the supply.

Keep the approved drawing, final BOQ, quotation, delivery note, warranty and snag list together. For multiple cabins, identify each unit and record any outstanding work before operational handover.

Frequently asked questions

Only if the design meets both uses. Control or equipment rooms may have additional requirements for ventilation, electrical services, heat loads, cable routing, access and safety that should be reviewed before ordering.

Share the exact site address, entry restrictions, vehicle access, unloading method, placement surface, installation window and any induction or permit requirements before dispatch.
